TheSocialMedwork is a disruptive social enterprise that helps patients gain access to the latest medicines for oncological and neurological disease that have been approved in another country but are not yet available where they live. Medicines which are not available in their own countries. Patients find these medicines via our online platform and contact us to organise the purchase, importing and shipping with help of our expert team of pharmacists, medical doctors, scientists etc.

Job Description

As one out of two Sourcing Managers at TheSocialMedwork, you will be responsible for negotiating and buying latest overseas approved medicines on behalf of patients, doctors, and pharmaceutical companies. We want to make medicines accessible and affordable to as many patients as possible, so negotiating the best possible prices is the key, while maintaining relationship with suppliers and extending our network.

This includes finding, onboarding and retaining the best partners around the world, while further developing our global purchasing strategy. Key to this is identifying new manufacturers and wholesalers that can rapidly supply the latest approved innovative medicines. Having mentioned this strategic and broader part, this role also requires a big portion of "hands-on" as you will be also updating the systems with the newest prices, constantly (double-) checking with the suppliers lead time and prices. Our systems are doing the trick for now but you will come up with improving the systems to make the sourcing ready for scaling up!

You will take an active role in ‘rapid response' supply chain from sourcing, negotiating and buying with compliant logistics process in line with global regulations resulting in quick, successful, secured delivery to patients and doctors worldwide. You will be building a team with the other Sourcing Manager and the International Logistics and Customs Expert and you as a team make sure that from client’s purchase order with us the medicine will be sourced the quickest and cheapest and will be without delays delivered to the customer.  You will at all times know what the status of the order is and where the medicine is.

This is a full-time role (40 hrs/week).


  • Develop and lead our sourcing, buying and logistics strategy
  • Work closely with our Product Portfolio Manager, Logistics Manager and Customer Support Team
  • Negotiate with current and potential suppliers around the world, always seeking the best prices for patients
  • Achieve constantly price reductions for our portfolio
  • Extend our network of trustworthy suppliers (wholesalers and manufacturers)
  • Together with the Logistics Manager ensure a secure and quick supply and delivery chain (currently 100% success-rate on deliveries in over 60 countries)

Competencies, Education and Experience

  • Believe in our mission
  • At least 5 years of experience as a procurement specialist - buyer in sourcing and negotiating products
  • Degree in one of these: Business Management, Business Administration, Economics, Law, Pharmaceutics or similar
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, medical, pharmacy or medical NGO industry
  • Excellent Negotiation, relationship management and networking skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Organised and meticulous
  • Work Permit for the Netherlands
  • Ideally, living in Amsterdam. We cannot provide relocation.
